Dubstep Takes Over Old San Juan
Disclaimer: My camera broke….sadly, in one of the Christmas parties I attended these vacations so please bare with me until I get another one. For now, I will be stealing some videos and pictures from friends. Of course, I’ll be giving them their credit.
More than 10 THOUSAND people attended this event. Never would I have thought that Skrillex would be that big of a deal in Puerto Rico. Well, by the looks of it, he is. With the intention of tailgating and thinking that not a lot of people would arrive on time, me and my friends arrived at 8pm to find ourselves with MAJOR traffic. The main parking lot was FULL and the “second option” for parking, which is a garage, was full too. WHAT THE HELL?!
After about 1 hour of trying to meet up and find a place where we could park, we parked…well, a bit far. It was, easy, a 20-25 minute walk. There were cars all over Old San Juan and nobody could find anywhere to park. When we finally arrive to the entrance, of course, there’s a huge ass line and…. well, of course, being the people we are, we cut it. Don’t judge.
WE’RE FINALLY IN. This place is packed and it wasn’t even full yet. A LOT of tweens were in this event which I don’t even know how they’re even allowed in but… whatever. We grab our beers/water and walk into the crowd. There were so many people, you had a hard time actually breathing fresh air! We arrived and one of Skrillex’s opening DJ’s was playing, Alvin Risk. He was… well, alright. After Mr. Risk, ZEDD played, which is another DJ that is part of Skrillex’s crew. He was pretty awesome. We even had the pleasure of a little performance when this guy threw himself into the crowd. It was wild. ZEDD was the perfect warm-up for the main event.
At midnight, sharp, Mr. Skrillex himself stepped up into the DJ Booth and the whole place went crazy. He played ALL of his hits and remixed them in his own particular way. Some of them were Cinema, Kill Everybody, My Name is Skrillex, First of the Year, Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites, Kyoto, Levels (Remix), Voltage and many more. I’ll be posting up a video soon and you can see for yourself. The crowd even had the opportunity to be featured in the recording of his new song’s video, Kyoto. He had played it during the night but at the end of the event, played it again so we could show him what we’ve got for the video. At 2:15am, the event finished.
Skrillex later tweeted “Big shout out to the 10K people who showed up last night. Easily one of the biggest solo headliners to date. Love Puerto Rico”
It was definitely an INSANE event. Dubstep, personally, is music to basically go crazy to at one of these events. All you feel like doing is head banging, dancing & even maybe a little bit of moshing? If you like Dubstep and like Skrillex, YOU HAVE to see him LIVE. No questions asked. It was crazy, I was dead after the event and I don’t regret it.
